Day One in Mexico

So it´s my first morning in Mexico. I arrived at my host mother, Reyna´s house last night pretty late. I was exhausted from the nightmarish 23 hour bus ride, but I did my best to be pleasant. She is a very nice woman who I think will be very helpful in learning Spanish. It´s so frustrating to not be able to communicate clearly and effectively. I guess we usually get the point across, but I wish we could speak freely.

The house is pretty nice. Two levels. The first level contains the living room and kitchen, and the bedrooms and bathroom are on the second story. My bedroom is the middle one of three, so when Reyna needs to get up she has to come through my room.

Reyna has neighbor friends, who I met last night - Rosie and Alberto. Rosie and Reyna speak almost no English, while Alberto is perfectly bilingual. They seem nice.

Other little things I´ve picked up - Reyna´s husband passed away back in March. I{m not sure why or how. Reyna was also hit by a car a couple of months ago. Rosie comes in to clean and shop for her because Reyna has a hard time getting around. She thinks alcohol is bad, which I find very funny. I´m nervous and unsure about how all of this will go for 4 weeks. God help me!

It is so good to know that you made it to Mexico. It sounds like you could be a real blessing to Reyna. It also sounds like she really needs someone right now.

Welcome to the country...sounds interesting! I have noticed that Latins don't seem to mind the limited privacy...a different way of thinking. I will be praying for you! sounds like it will be stretching...wish we could visit!
