Back to Joys (for Monday)

So I definitely didn't get the full amount of rest that I wanted yesterday. It was a crazy hectic day for me, with the boot campers getting ready to leave I had a lot of "financial stuff" to do, plus I had to make up for all the stuff I didn't do Friday. Nasty. I ended up working from about 8 in the morning until 6ish that evening. There were a few highlights, though:

1. Double hugs from Jamesy - He always comes in and usually doesn't even bother pretending that he's only in my office for candy/gum. I make him give me a hug before he can get the sugar. This time, though, he gave me a hug (really just allowed me to hug him), then got the gum, started for the door, and came back to give me another hug. It was really sweet! I love that kid.

2. Qdoba - I was too tired to go to dinner last night, and in one of those moods where not much sounds good to eat, so I went out and got a naked veggie burrito from Qdoba. Talk about amazing! I love that place.

3. Free Redbox Mondays! - One Monday a month, Redbox sends me a code for a free rental. I rented Adventureland, which turned out to be a pretty good movie, I thought. I never could convince any of my friends to watch it with me, so I rented it and watched it by myself. I liked the music and the characters, especially Kristen Stewart's character (I know, I know, Twilight... ew). Jesse Eisenberg wasn't bad either. He was awkward, but not too Michael Cera-esque.

4. Nyquil - I was sore and tired and coughing and thought, "Dang, I don't want to leave this sleeping thing up to chance tonight." So I downed a couple Nyquil (strange for me because I don't usually take any kind of medication) and slept like a baby all night. It was wonderful!

5. Unsolicited compliments - I sing a lot. Half the time I don't even know I'm doing it. It probably annoys some people, but I guess they'd tell me if it was too annoying. I guess I was singing the song I had been listening to in the car while I was waiting in line at the Redbox station, and the lady in front of me returned her movie and said, "By the way, you have a beautiful voice!" as she walked away. I thought that was sweet. Words of affirmation is definitely one of my love languages (when it's genuine), so it was cool to hear from someone unexpected.

6. I know I usually only list five things, and this didn't really happen Monday, but I wanted to tell you anyway. On Thursdays, one of my co-workers goes to buy the groceries for the campus. She's done it for a long time and is pretty good at it. Last Thursday she came into the office and handed me a container of vanilla-carmel creamer. I had mentioned earlier that I really like that creamer, so she went and bought it for me. Isn't that sweet? It totally left me speechless. I guess really my love language is just anything from the heart, anything genuine. I used to think I wasn't a gifts person, but I think if it's personal, intentional, and meaningful, then I'll feel the love.
