Monday Monday...

Before I start on my joys, i want to relate a story to you and my musings on it. I was walking through a neighboring office yesterday when I saw an amazing sight. A spider had built a web in several of the windows in the door to this office. A fly had recently been caught in it and had two or three legs wrapped up in it. The spider was on the web trying to do his "spider thing" with the fly, but the fly was still alive. I watched them for several minutes, and this was basically how it went: The spider would edge up close to the fly, then kinda poke it like it was teasing him or something. The fly would then freak out and buzz and flail and shake the web. The spider would get a little nervous that his web was shaking so he'd walk away a little. Then he'd go back and poke the fly some more. This went on for at least 5 minutes (don't judge me for wasting time!).

I started thinking that this scenario is a lot like my life. I have been stuck in the enemy's web more times than I care to admit. And when I get stuck, I do a lot of flailing. Some of the flailing doesn't scare him at all, and he just continues to antagonize me, making me feel bad for getting stuck in there. Like it's not bad enough that I'm stuck! The reality was, though, that if the fly had flailed enough or had asked someone (like me) to save him, he could have been free easily. spider webs aren't really that strong. He could have escaped. But the fly didn't know his own power.

Also, I was thinking, there were two options for the life of that fly. Either it would end soon and the spider would eat him, or he would escape. But if he escaped he would never be the same again. His body would show permanent damage from the time he was trapped by his enemy. Chew on that for awhile. Aren't we all carrying around scars, not functioning as we should because of encounters with the enemy? Here's a picture I took...

1. The smell of bacon - Doesn't really get me in the exercise mood, but it's pretty funny to have a gym right behind a Braum's. I get out of my car to work out and smell bacon. It makes me smile.

2. Vanilla Caramel Creamer - I stole a bit from the mini fridge. Not sure whose it was, but it was wonderful in my coffee Monday morning!

3. Abigail - One of the sweet little kids on campus found me early Monday morning and announced "My daddy said I can get a treat because I didn't poop in my pants. Can you give me some gum?" I wish I got treats for that.

4. Bebe - One of the sweet ladies I work with told me how much she likes working for me Monday. I really appreciated that. She's pretty incredible and I'm not sure what I would ever do without her.

5. Hanging out with friends - Ok, if it happens, it's always going to make it on my list. Maia, Audrey, Justin, April, Kim... they all brighten my day, even when all we do is sit around and talk.

I too wish they gave out treats for that. :) And I'm coveting your creamer. I'm all out and am searching around the house for something yummy to stir into my coffee. :) Love the insights!
