Love Puts Things In Perspective

Genesis 29:20 says, "So Jacob served seven years for Rachel and they seemed to him but a few days because of his love for her."  Doesn't this sound like something from a fairy tale?  It's so beautiful!  I think most of us have experienced, to some degree, this truth, that love has a tendency to make time fly.  Love has a way of making the less important things fade away.  When we're talking about puppy love, it seems that the rest of the world fades away, and nothing compares to our fascination with each other.  But when we're talking about real, gut-it-out love, Godly love, something similar happens.

True love helps fade out the less important issues.  It puts things in perspective.  Our disagreements, miscommunication, differences, my/your insensitivity, and a myriad of other problems leading to my hurt feelings aren't important enough to cancel out or supersede my love for you.  I love you regardless of what you say or do.  Everything else just makes our love more of an adventure.  I may not always feel the mushy love feeling, but I remain committed to you, regardless.  This is the kind of love that we as Christians should have for all people, not just spouses, family, and friends.  The love of Christ in us enables us to love people in this way, but this is obviously a love that is too big for us to create on our own.

So true--One thing I've been thinking about lately is how when we truly learn to love selflessly, what a blessing that is to others. I no that is a little different that what you were saying, but just a thought your insights brought to my mind...
