More thoughts on Isaiah 42

Isaiah 42:13:
The LORD will go forth like a warrior,
He will arouse His zeal like a man of war.
He will utter a shout, yes, He will raise a war cry.
He will prevail against His enemies.

A lot of times, I think we make God too much of a wuss. Don't get me wrong, I fully embrace the loving, nurturing merciful aspects of God, especially as demonstrated by Jesus Christ. I love that my God is a forgiving God. I love that He is a good shepherd. I love that he gently leads us where we need to go, not shoving us in any direction.

But let's face it, folks, we're in a war. The enemy is not merciful. He is not loving, he is not nurturing. Do we want a pansy fighting this war for us? No! And God is far from a pansy! He will go forth like a warrior! He will arouse His zeal like a man of war! Think about the zeal of men in some of the wars of old. I imagine the men in the movie 300. What zeal! They gave all they had on the battlefield, reveling in the glory of the battle. Don't you think God has even more zeal when fighting the enemy on our behalf?

He will raise a war cry! What do you think the LORD's war cry sounds like? Can we even imagine? Take all of his passion - His hatred of evil, His love of mankind, and His desire to see the world worship him - and put it into one insane war cry. Just think about it...Don't read any further, just think about it...

I imagine it to be a cross between the cry of the men before battle in Braveheart, the roar of a lion, a sonic boom, and something much more glorious than human ears can comprehend. I have a visual picture of Jesus leading an army of believers (you and I are in there!) . We are standing on a hilltop looking down into a valley of the enemy's armies. As I look into Jesus' face, I see that His eyes are wild and furious. His neck is straining as He lets out this cry of passion, and as the sound erupts from His lips, our entire army echoes, each in his own war cry. At the sound of our cries, the enemy's army trembles with the knowledge that their defeat is at hand.

We are on the winning team! The LORD will prevail against His enemies! They don't stand a chance! Aren't you glad our God is not a wuss? Revel today in the knowledge that Christ is the victor and if you have aligned yourself with Him, you are with the army on the hilltop. Live the victory! Live victoriously! Do not let the enemy fool you into thinking he can defeat you!

Hmmmm...great post! Gives me lots to think about...I think when we meet Jesus face to face, we will be blown away by the reality of who He is! Like Paul said, it's so hard for us to see now, but then we will see face to face! Amen.
